Here comes Tom, in control…
I have been watching, reading, and thinkin about the history of our country more and more these days. I truly believe we are making historical progress in this generation, as well as historical mistakes. But, we’re not the first to do either. Its important to see our modern society in the context its born of, all of the advancements and failures our current situation rests on. I know from a philosophy class at UofO (when in Rome…), the term is called Historicity. ‘Of course, wildfire, but whats the point?’ Well, my cyber friend, the goal of this search for prior meaning is to try and pickup where our country’s cause left off, and do the most educated job of continuing the legacy.
so….anyway, I would totally recommend the HBO series, John Adams, though it gets a bit to dramatic for my taste at points. However, it tries to be historically accurate and, as far as I can tell, does a pretty good job. Mostly, its just entertaining. It involves the original founding fathers, including one Thomas Jefferson himself, who I have been extremely impressed with the more I read up on him, and some of his boss quotes. He was all about the pursuit of science and truth, which just gives me shivers, and, oh, ‘Louisiana’ from France for about 3 cents per acre? Oui, s’il vous plaît!
